Clinical trials

Celsion is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on optimizing the delivery of proven cancer treatment drugs to maximize their efficacy and minimize side effects while providing an accelerated registration pathway for those agents.

Our current drug development program is based on the Celsion proprietary heat-activated liposome technology. In the medium to long term, the company intends to in-license and commercialize other tumor-targeting molecules which are not necessarily dependent on heat-activated liposomes or other drug delivery mechanisms. Where necessary, Celsion will utilize FDA-approved heating devices to provide the targeted heat necessary to trigger drug release.

The foundation of Celsion's oncology platform is ThermoDox®, a heat-sensitive liposome that Celsion has licensed from Duke University.

ThermoDox® technology in action

Celsion and Duke University have developed the liposomal formulation encapsulating doxorubicin and Celsion is currently conducting ThermoDox trials for two indications:

The patents for this license currently extend to 2018. The company has filed additional claims having the potential to extend the exclusivity of these patents to 2020 and beyond.
