Our clinical trials; Are they right for you?

If you have been diagnosed with primary liver cancer (also called hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC) or recurrent chest wall breast cancer (RCW), you may be interested in being part of one of our clinical trials.

Hepatocellular carcinoma

Primary liver cancer is one of the most common and deadly forms of cancer. Although the standard treatment for liver cancer is surgical resection of the tumor, 80% to 90% of patients are ineligible for this surgery. Early stage liver cancer generally has few symptoms, so detection and diagnosis are often delayed and, when finally detected and diagnosed, the tumor is often too large for surgery. There are few alternative treatments including radiofrequency ablation, since radiation therapy and chemotherapy are largely ineffective.

Heat activated liposomal doxorubicin and radiofrequency ablation in treating patients with primary or metastatic liver tumors

Recurrent chest wall breast cancer (RCW)

This condition afflicts patients that have previously undergone a mastectomy (surgery to remove or partially remove a cancerous breast). Symptoms of RCW may include a lump in your breast or on your chest wall. Sometimes recurrent or metastatic breast cancer is discovered on an X-ray. There is currently no generally effective therapeutic approach for this condition.

Heat activated liposomal doxorubicin and hyperthermia to treat patients with loco-regional recurrent breast cancer

What is a clinical trial?

"Clinical trial" is the term for a test or study of a drug in people. These tests are done to see if the product is safe and effective. Doctors and other health professionals run the tests according to strict rules set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These rules make sure that people who agree to be in the studies are treated as safely as possible.

Why volunteer?

By taking part in a clinical trial, you can try a new treatment that may or may not be better than those that already exist. You can also help the drug developers better understand how the treatment works in different people. You also have the opportunity to be involved in something that could help yourself and countless others.

How to become involved in a clinical trial

There are many resources on the Internet that list clinical trials being conducted for the treatment of various diseases. The following is a list of some of the Web sites that focus primarily on cancer clinical trials:
